All readings as presented are both interesting and challenging in that they present to the reader a technological picture of the future that may well take many traditional library staff out of their comfort zone. There is however no question in my mind that they are correct in their reasoning and their forecasts. The increase in technological means of communicating rapidly and with up to date information can produce a means of the library becoming more relevant to its community. Indeed without the uptake of Web 2.0 technologies many libraries will find themselves consigned to the Google search term 'irrelevancies'. Many university library users are already familiar with the use of forums and wikis thriugh their course units, particularly those engaged in distance education.
A challenge I think will be to determine which technologies to follow. The myriad of emerging Web 2.0 resources many of which are promoted by different companies and are in direct competition make it very difficult for all library staff to be continually abreast of these, and maybe the CSU concept of a dedicated section as specialists particularly in large library organisations is one way to go. If the library staff are comfortable with the use of these technologies then the library patrons will be more likely to access library services and help from staff
